DESCRIPTION

Profile of Programme
Archaeology is one of the most important study programs of the University of Cyprus. Due to Cyprus’ geographical position, UCY is an ideal place not just for studying the archaeology of the island itself, but that of the Mediterranean in general, as well. For this reason, it was obvious from the very beginning of the operation of the University of Cyprus that such a programme was much needed.
Thus, after the establishment of one of the best archaeological libraries in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the endowment of the Department with several, new academic positions, the Department of History and Archaeology began to offer this postgraduate programme in Mediterranean Archaeology. The programme aims to highlight and examine all aspects of Mediterranean interconnections from Prehistory up to the Byzantine era, based on the varying fields of expertise of the academic staff of the Department, and to make the students acquainted with the latest research results and methodologies in the field, as well to teach them how to reach such results and build such methodologies themselves.

Key Learning Outcomes
The intended learning outcomes are the study of Archaeology, History and cultures of the Mediterranean from Prehistory to the Byzantine era, with a clear emphasis on the Eastern part of this area. Study is based on the examination of different aspects of the human existence in different areas of this part of the world, and on the search of their differences and similarities across times and regions
